Gabions
& Mattresses Deliver 'Unsurpassed Flexibility and Strength' for
Carindale Project.
Overland
flow management and containment of flash flooding is a requirement that
must be addressed by developers of urban and commercial sub-divisions.
A recent example of this is a retention basin and weir that provides
flood control for a subdivision at Scrubb Road, Carindale (in Brisbane).
The developer was Monkton Developments.
Landplan
Engineering Supplies was able to provide their client with a complete
supply and installation package for the gabion and mattress structure.
Gabions and mattresses are options utilised mainly in erosion control
and weir structures due to the unsurpassed flexibility, strength and
ability to handle high velocity turbulent water flows. Whilst the installation
was reasonably straight forward, we had to work with a 50mm tolerance
to ensure the spillway was level throughout the cascade steps. This
required careful monitoring of the excavation across the full length
of the structure with constant checking and adjustment of the earth
works. Whilst this process was very slow and time consuming, the result
was well worth the effort. Crest Length: 30 metres Height: 2.5m.
